Phuket Diving - with Wired Destinations
Below the waves of Phuket, the beauty of Thailand comes alive. Phuket promises an exotic Phuket diving adventure amidst beautiful natural settings to every traveler who is staying at Phuket hotels. This island is rated as one of the best Phuket diving spots, with its spectacular coral reefs and astonishing rock formations that are home to some of Asia's most beautiful and colorful sea creatures.
As Phuket is comprised of numerous astonishing Phuket beaches and a wide range of surrounding islands, it is a famous attraction among both Thai and international travelers. All year round, travelers can dive at many beautiful Phuket diving sites. For the best time for diving, visit this island paradise from November to April when the water is clear and the temperature is around 28-30° Celsius. The monsoon season is from May to October when rain swells the island and reduces the visibility a bit. However, not many liveaboard services are canceled due to the water conditions. Some recommended diving areas are close to the surrounding islands of Phuket, such as the Similan Islands, Bon Island, Racha Noi and Racha Yai Island.
The Similans is Thailand's National Marine Park and is the best spot to dive and explore the wonderful ecosystem of the Andaman Sea. The temperature and crystal clear water makes the Similans a great view of amazing colorful reefs and astonishing marine life. Many fantastic diving sites are available near the Similans, so it would be a good idea to try one of the liveaboard services. A day trip is also a good choice for those who are pressed for time. Two types of diving are on offer; on the east side of the island, there are sloping magnificent corals and soft sand, while on the west side, it is famous for the undersea granite boulders. All level divers can enjoy the scene of the Similans all year round.
Bon Island (Koh Bon) is located at the south of the Similans and is another great diving hot spot. Manta rays, the rare leopard sharks, various types of moray eels and the amazing titan triggerfish can be seen here. Though the corals are not as lush as of the Similans, Koh Bon still offers a memorable diving trip. The corals are radically different in color and include shades of yellow, green, blue and pink. It is also a great destination for night dives, as the reefs are made of beautiful pore corals which are home to shrimp gobies. For the more adventurous, Koh Bon Pinnacle, which is a fairly deep diving spot (16-40 meters), awaits advanced divers.
Richelieu Rock, Surin is more popular with its beautiful coves and bays and is most visited by dive boats from Phuket. The island is rated as one of the best sites in the world to swim and dive with the giant whale sharks - the biggest fish of the ocean - rare almost every place in the world. Visit Richelieu Rock from February to April when the visibility is excellent. Other highlights of Richelieu Rock are the guitar sharks, the schooling pelagic fish and the rainbow color coral reefs.
On the south of Phuket lie Racha Yai and Racha Noi, the two islands where two beautiful bays, Ao Tawan Tok and Ao Siam, are the main draws. The best diving and snorkeling spot is on the east tip of Racha Yai Island is most suitable for a daytrip. Visibility varies depending on the season. Phuket divers will encounter an amazing array of hard coral reef gardens, large schools of fish, and occasionally, stonefish, catfish and lionfish. The views are similar to the Similans, making these two islands one of the best wall diving places in Phuket. Other than schools of tropical fish, sometimes the barracuda, cuttlefish and octopus can be spotted. However, due to the potential for strong currents, many of the dive services will only allow divers who have an advanced certification.
