On Pattaya Beaches, travelers can relax under the sun while enjoying Thai massages, or sample some delicious fresh seafood in some of the open-air restaurants by the coast. Volleyball, jet ski, banana boat and parasailing are other popular activities available on the beach. For thrill seekers, there is Bungee jumping and go-karts. A great way to explore the mountain tops and discover some fascinating sights of Pattaya are elephant rides. Under the sea, there are plenty of beautiful and uninhabited coral islands for deep and shallow water dives and snorkeling.
A hill separates Pattaya's main area from a patch of luxurious Pattaya hotels and private Pattaya beaches. Farther south is the resort of Jomtien, with beaches marginally better than Pattaya's. Here are bungalow complexes, some fine Jomtien Beach hotels and a host of good seafood and other restaurants. Enjoy Pattaya Sports and Leisure, with equipment for windsurfing, sailing, snorkeling and diving available for rent, along with jet skis, water scooters and water-skiing equipment. The brave may try parasailing, strapped into a parachute harness and towed aloft by a speedboat.
Thais are great golfing buffs, going so far as to employ some of the golfing world's renowned architects to design international-class greens. Some of the best courses are in Pattaya. Green fees range from 500-1,000 baht per round on weekends and it is generally not difficult to reserve a go.
As a seaside resort town with a tropical climate, Pattaya today is a well known tropical tourist destination, ideally for water sports. From swimming, snorkeling and parasailing to diving, yacht racing and water skiing; the city of Pattaya has a wide range of activities to suit all ages and tastes.
Swimming is a very popular sport for both Thai and international travelers. Most Thais swim in their everyday clothes as they are not used to showing most parts of their body in public. The Pattaya waters are at the same temperature as the air, making swimming a very pleasant and relaxing activity. Even during the hot season, when the overall temperature is around 28° Celsius, the sea still remains cool and refreshing.
There are many beautiful and uninhabited islands that suit for a daytrip. The smaller islands around Pattaya are recognized as a great place for diving and snorkeling. The warm tropical water is home to numerous species of fish and corals. Pattaya offers diving schools catering to both novices and experts alike. Many dive shops around Pattaya Walking Street offer diving facilities at reasonable prices.
Pattaya offers year round diving with an array of sites and excursions to choose from. Water temperature varies around 28-30° Celsius all year round, making Pattaya a famous diving hotspot for beginners and advanced divers. Many spectacular diving sites are within easy reach from Pattaya, Jomtien and Nachomtien Beaches; and there are several dive centers with 5-star PADI trainers in Pattaya.
Parasailing is a very popular water sport. Boats will take off from the Bali Hi Pier at the end of Pattaya Walking Street and take travelers to the pontoons where instruction will be given. Pattaya parasailing cannot be done on windy days for safety factors. However, a parasailing experience will provide travelers with unforgettable and fascinating views of the beautiful Pattaya Bay.
As for deep sea fishing, several fishing companies run daily trips from Pattaya and usually return with some great catches. Fishing trips typically fish for sail fish, barracuda, cobia, shark, stingrays and queen fish. Fresh water fishing is also recommended as Pattaya is one of the renowned habitats for carp. Fishing ponds and local lakes are well stocked with these species as well as other fish like catfish and tilapia. The best time of the year to go fishing in Pattaya is during November and December. Fishing competitions also take place every month and could be exciting.
Sailing is another good activity, especially in Jomtien. Both national and international regattas take place here and small boats are available for hire. Many travelers like to sail to Koh Lan, Koh Lam or one of the many smaller islands in the morning and return to the mainland in the afternoon. Yacht clubs around Jomtien Beach are available or you can simply rent a dinghy from the beach.
There are plenty of Pattaya sports and leisure activities both on land and underwater, so take your time to explore and enjoy all the fun and entertainment this beach resort town has to offer. For a complete directory of all Pattaya Sports and Leisure hotspots we recommend Pattayanet.com.
